About Me

My photo
Michael Leahy
I have sailed the Great Lakes for nearly 30 years . For over the years, I have sailed and explored Lakes Ontario, Erie, Huron and Superior and each experience only deepened my love of these inland seas. I joined the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary and became a Coxswain. I was promoted to Vice-Commodore, responsible for unit training. Inter-agency activities included participation in the maritime security plan for the 2010 G20 Summit in Toronto, ON. Along the way, I earned my Captain's license. For years, I have sailed, taught navigation, weather and seamanship, written course material, led training exercises and delivered seminars. In 2012 I launched www.great-lakes-sailing.com, a website that is one place where you could get all kinds of information on Great Lakes ports, port reviews, ideas on navigation and cruising, safety, etc. And ... its all free! I hope that this blog becomes a forum for readers to offer their own input. It’s not just a one way flow of information. There are lots of opportunities to add your thoughts, to make your comments and I hope you do.
